Organization:Maine Dental AssociationPortland, Maine Engagement FocusNeeded speakers for three annual meetings.Service ProvidedOne of Northland Health Group�s senior consultants, Peter McKenney, was sole speaker at three consecutive annual meetings based on extensive work in dental practice management, including: 15 dental practices as clients composed of five (5) orthodontic practices, three (3) oral surgery, two (2) peridontic and five (5) general dentistry. Work performed for these practices was to assist with �in-house� management. This included training, oversight of financial staff, and periodic meetings with owner-dentists to discuss practice goals and strategy. Specific financial goals covered were efforts to increase income, control costs, and establish equitable compensation systems. Targeted efforts included valuation, creation of a buy-in structure and transition to a new compensation system. Focused initiatives were in setting up good business systems, dealing with tax favored benefits for dentists and limited personal financial planning. Periodic requests to market dental services resulted in targeted use of dentist-business people who function as advisors and in some cases, as investors.
